Glossary
Base plate
A part of the fixture/tool assuring the flatness of the workpiece.
Automated tool change
The base die is moved out of the quench press automatically and replaced by another base die which has been preset for the specific workpiece.
Fixed mandrel
Part of the fixture/tool. This fixed component ensures the dimensional stability of the interior bore of the workpiece.
Fixture
A workpiece specific tool which is used within the quenching machine.
Base die
The base die is intended to hold the different workpiece-specific fixtures/tools.
Green parts
Parts which come from green machining and have not yet been hardened.
Quenching machine / Quench press
A machine to quench metal parts and to avoid/reduce warpage.
Härtequette
A German term used mainly in the agricultural industry to denote a quenching machine/quench press. A machine to quench metal parts and to avoid/reduce warpage.
Lamella mandrel
Part of the fixture/tool. This moveable component assures the dimensional stability of the interior bore of the workpiece.
Magazine
A device for the storage of components.
Manipulator
A linear unit with one or more axes intended for loading and unloading a furnace.
Retainer/hold-down device
Part of the fixture/tool. The movable component ensures the linear movement of the workpiece. This allows the concavity/convexity of the component to be influenced as desired.
Furnace fork
The front end of a manipulator. The furnace fork moves into the furnace.
Expanding mandrel
Part of the fixture/tool. This movable component assures the dimensional stability of the interior bore of the workpiece.
Tool
Workpiece-specific fixture used inside the quenching machine.
Tool change
The base die is pulled out of the quenching machine by hand. The component-specific tools (mandrel, base plate, hold-down device) are replaced for other tools. The base die is then pushed back into the machine and locked.
